Over the years, Perloff has published Letters to the Editor, Op-Eds, and Feature Articles drawing on academic perspectives, that have appeared in a variety of newspapers.
Among 29 of Perloff’s letters in The New York Times are historically-based such as on the horrors of lynching and the classic 1960 Kennedy-Nixon debate; the power of perceptions in media coverage of the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal and simple media effects; existential and literary issues; cults in an online age; political knowledge; news, and objectivity.
In more than 30 Op-Eds for The Plain Dealer and Cleveland.com, he has discussed the enduring philosophical lessons of the May 4 tragedy; legacy of Robert F. Kennedy and 1968 the meaning of July 4 in America; political history during the stormy years of Dennis Kucinch’s years as Cleveland mayor and American political communication; importance of journalism and facts; and racial injustice.
One of his Op-Ed Articles is a historical piece on the 50th anniversary of the Kent State shootings appeared in The New York Times on the iconic May 4, 2020.
His Op-Ed opinion pieces have also appeared in The Lafayette (Indiana) Journal & Courier, The Akron Beacon Journal, The Toledo Blade, The Dayton Daily News, and The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. His letters have also appeared in The New Yorker and The Cleveland Plain Dealer.
